A lot of the time, the causes of female hair loss are quite similar to that of male hair loss. DHT production in the body can be causes by hormonal imbalances and the result is an increased rate of hair loss. However, these are not the only things that cause female hair loss.

Female bodies are different from male bodies in that they of course age differently and have different dietary needs over time. Some of the most common causes of female hair loss is a thyroid malfunction, low ferritin levels, or an iron deficiency. Luckily, there are supplements that can be prescribed to you to help you overcome these effects.

Sometimes hair loss in females is the result of certain medication or birth control pills you may be taking. This is not incredibly common, but if you are on birth control or other prescription drugs, it’s a good idea to check the label to see if some of its side effects are hair loss or hair thinning.

No matter what the cause of hair loss, it’s usually a good idea for women to consult a doctor when trying to decide what to do about it. They can test for certain hormonal imbalances and give you a prescription if necessary.
